I can see the light!
This week is our final week of class in CIS 131, Thank God. This week we have done two labs and reviewed for our final on Monday. It should be a real hoot, i can't wait. We have spent some time in Microsoft Excel and Word so hopefully it will all pay off. As to Mr.Casey it was fun getting to know you and maybe i'll see you down the road sometime.
Myspace A Killer!
This past week we discussed an article in the paper where a mother and her daughter made up a fake myspace profile together. They requested to be friends we another girl to whom the daughter knew. They became real close friends over the internet but that wasn't the mother and daughters purpose of making the account. They wanted to find out if the girl was bashing the other girl.Eventually the mother and daughter started bashing there close cyber friend. The end result was the girl killing herself over the bashing that she was recieving on myspace. Now to me this sounds about half stupid, give me a break killing yourself over a friend on myspace...The women and her daughter weren't held responsible because they never broke any law, but i hope they feel the guilt.

The fight against stealing music
In class on monday the 5th of Nov. our class discussed the problems with stealing music off the internet. Recently the music industry went to UofO and asked them if they could get information on the students who attend the college that have been downloading music illegally and the University said no.This was because they couldn't prove who was stealing the music from the computers. This is a major turning point for the music industry and the college. We will see what happens.

GPS technology at it's best!
GPS-guided positiong system, which enables the user to get an earth centered earth fixed position, used for data collection or navigation, on or beneth the earths surface. this technology is great for people who love to go into the backwoods, hunters ect. It is also a great tool for surveying and plotting maps. The only thing that i thought was ironic is that the government can control the signals so that the gps users don't always have an accurate reading.funny !!!

Computer Literacy
In CIS131 our class and many others who are using office word 2007 with the computer literacy for ic3 book, have had to compromise and use an on-line version to do our homework.Technology at it's best some would say.I wouldn't,However i am glad that we have the online version of the book i'm not pleased. It takes me twice as long to do my homework along with other little nitches here and there.I hate it

Why does everyone need to know!
In CIS131 we read an article about being fluent with computer technology, Why? The article stated that a number of people in our world today need to learn about technology and how to use it...I say BS. In the 1800's do you think people relied on computers to send and buy goods for the general store, NO. there are people today who don't use computers and get by just fine.Do you think that that just because 3/4 of the world uses computers that the other 1/4 will.Maybe with time but not today.computers might be a thing of the present, but for some it still is a thing of the future and i hope it stays that way during my lifetime, because god only knows what they will think up next, flying cars perhaps.

the 2nd life for people who have alot of time on there hands.
Second life was established in 2003. It started with just 64 acres of virtual land and is now over 65,000 acres. It has 9,822,319 residents who live in this world. There are currently millions of US dollars in monthly transactions. The unit of trade is in Lindin dollars. It's virtuall a second life, you can buy, sell, market, build houses and other products. When you first begin you are given a free acount, but a premium account is $9.95 a month. You must also pay property tax, which is an additional $9.95 a month. If you have alot of time on your hands and like to waste money than this is the game for you.
Yahoo!
Recently Yahoo has been trying to stay in the race with google in the digital search and advertising businesses. Yahoo has just made a deal with telefonica, the Spanish telecommunications company to feature it's search engines on mobile portals that are run by the company. This goes hand in hand with the google calender that we played with this week, with a feature were google can text message you when you have oppointments through your on-line calender. NEAT!

exponetional curve
This week in class we learned about exponential curve with computer technology, which i thought was very interesting. Computers have come a long ways in the last 20 years.so much in fact that it suprised me.We also talked about computers being able to vote, which i think is BS.We also read an article about what computers will be like in the future. And researchers are saying that computers are going to be smarter than humans in the years to come.I think BS on that one too.

Why i took this class?
I took this class for one because it was recommended for the major that i am study for at COCC,which is Fire science. The other main reason was because our world today is based on the growth in technology. I'm not a computer guy so i thought this course would help me understand computers and there systems better.
